I set a new record tonight

I lost count but I smashed a lot of tentworms. It's so cool when they make that snapping noise.

Glass half empty

Looking at the WORS schedule is somewhat disheartening. 2 races down already, the 3rd this weekend. That's a quarter of the way to October and snow and cold weather that comes along with it. (Insert sad face icon thing) It's not even June yet, the garden is just getting going but I am apparently seeing the Fall coming right at me.
In other news, I just crushed the jumble in the newspaper. Things are looking up.

That was hot

Not Paris Hilton "hot" but temperature wise hot. Although it wasn't so much the heat as the humidity. Anyway, enough cliche's I'll ge to the blah, blah, blah. Great weekend for riding in these parts. I did a loop with the Baraboo crew and we went through Devil's Lake descending " The Snakes" to get to South Shore. I forgot how fun that descent is so I did it again the next day with MFCP, Michelle and Liza to reinforce the memory. There was a lot more oncoming traffic on Sunday but it was still awesome. I spent the weekend caulking siding joints and trying to keep Bryan busy working on my endless list of projects not done that keeps getting longer. Finished off the weekend at The Moosejaw with Black Betty. She kept me up all night but she was definitely worth it. AND we saw this dude riding down the road on a bike quite similiar to Pedro's Sledgehammer with his helmet on Buhwheat style AND backwards!! Unfortunately, I have no photographic proof, which if I had, would have won some sort of award in some kind of contest I'm sure.

Rhinelander

I guess that went ok. After I figured out how to ride my bike about a lap into the race I felt ok. Not exactly where I wanted to end up on the first lap but I think the end result once again ended up the same, 7th overall in a pretty solid field. Seth Lens wouldn't go away and kept the pressure on but I was able to hold him off and then I passed Nate Guerra at the end. That was exciting. Not as exciting as Chris and Darrin's post race interview was though. Look for a link to that when it show's up. Nice work by the whole team, really. Lisa pulled off another 2nd place only 36 seconds behind the 3 time overall champ for WORS. Very nice. The post race burger and beers with the team at the Cross Country bar were delicioso. MFCP was a full weekend of entertainment including on the drive home when he pasted a deer on the I-Road at 70 mph. Apparently he's sliding the on bike issues to driving issues. Whatever works.
SO to celebrate a good weekend of racing last night I moved 4 cu. yards of dirt and leveled it off to get ready to put down some pavers. That's how we do "recovery" days in Denzer.

Did I Mention

How much I like my new S-Works Epic? Lisa said something I never thought I'd hear her say last night. No, not that. Not that either. Seriously, she said "I can't wait to race my bike again!" Wow. That's what I'm talkin' about.

IOLA!!

I absolutely love WORS. We haven't seen most of the people at these events since October and then we all converge at the season opener and it's like we were never apart. It's great to see everyone again and now everything seems right in my world again. Of course it always helps when the first race goes well for our family and team. Lisa pulled off a great effort with teammate Diana McFadden for a 2-3 finish in the Women's Elite field. Darrin was 3rd in the Men's and I managed an 8th place finish after starting mid-pack in a 90 rider strong Elite field. The start was a major dissapointment and I had a lot of ground to make up but I don't think I could've finished much higher, if at all with a better start. I know that my new S-Works Epic was responsible for getting me 4-5 places higher than if I was on a hardtail. (Thank you Chris, Scott and Pete for making that happen!!!) Sitting down going through the rooty pine section at the end of the lap and just hammering through it was something I had never experienced before. Honestly I didn't think that was even possible. Anyway, the racing was just the icing on the cake for the weekend. Hanging out at the Peariso's Saturday and Sunday with everyone was as good as the racing. I even got to hang out with the girls and watch some of Avatar in the home theatre. Michelle's cooking was responsible for adding a little extra girth to my midsection so it's a good thing we only stayed 2 days. All in all a great weekend. Many more to come.
